A lovely little project for a lovely family! It’s a simple, elegant contemporary garden design that ticks all the boxes for our clients who are over-the-moon-happy with it.

We started off by excavating the existing turf, path and some soil before constructing the raised planters using oak railway sleepers. We ran cables for electrics, filled the beds with BS certified, free-draining topsoil and painted the fence a rustic slate colour. The type 1 sub-base was then brought in and compacted, ready for laying on. First the small, corner patio and then the larger, main one. For both, we installed the wood-effect, cinder porcelain (a beautiful product with a carefully reproduced grain that gives it the warm character of weathered wood) and a lovely edging detail using slate cobbles.

We planted up a stunning selection of smaller shrubs from Northhill nursery, as well as the architectural lollypop bays and ornamental miscanthus from Flourish Plants; these add height, structure, movement, colour, and fragrance, softening the hard-standing areas.

Moving onto the final stages of the garden installation, we lay a concrete haunch along the perimeter of that middle/back area and installed grano dust which was compacted, before rolling out the artificial lawn, cutting it to size and glueing it to the haunch. Lastly came the jobs of grouting the paving, spreading a thin layer of silica sand into the lawn and ‘fluffing’ it up. Jelvis also came at the end to install the lighting that our clients had chosen.

It was wonderful to receive photos from our client that show the kids really enjoying their new garden and getting involved in the watering duties! We’ve been back a year later to catch up and take some new photos… The plants have really grown into the space and look stunning!
