Another lovely modern garden design completed in Barnham! Some of the steps we took to ensure this garden delivers and looks fantastic year-round include painting the fence black (this instantly changed the feel of the garden making it a lot more sleek and contemporary, not to mention that it really contrasts with the plants and makes them pop), removing all the existing turf and re-laying the corner patio as well as prepping the ground so we could install a dog-specialised artificial lawn! Previously, the client’s dog would churn up the lawn, and combined with the garden position (in winter it doesn’t get much sun), meant that their grass was really patchy and in very bad health, so artificial lawn was a great solution. We constructed a continuous, raised plant bed out of oak railway sleepers that frames the sides of the garden and now houses some fantastic, specimen trees and plants kindly supplied by @flourish_plants_uk and @northhillnurseries. These include cherry blossoms, multi-stemmed silver birches and tree ferns to name a few!
You may notice from the before photos that we began the garden installation of this project in the winter, and this generally isn’t a problem; we wrap up and work the whole way through. However, this year (2021) we had a particularly horrendous, sub-freezing cold spell. It didn’t stop us from working but it made things difficult and we noticed that we’d be extremely exhausted, and with low energy levels, it was also a struggle to focus on the task at hand; luckily our clients were very understanding, and thankfully, the cold didn’t last too long!
